and not nemaritimetrust.org.uk
‘.co.uk’ or ‘.uk’ mean much the same thing and they are ideal for any business or individual who is solely UK-based and really wants to let people know that they operate within the UK.
‘.org.uk’ is extension designed for ‘organisations’ – which can be a slightly grey area when trying to figure out what exactly defines an ‘organisation’ – but for the purpose of domain extensions it simply means ‘non-profit organisations’ and includes charities.
In 2007 when I was looking for a domain name for the North East Maritime Trust, ‘nemt.org.uk’ was not available because it in use by the North East Mountain Trust which had been going since 1980 but ‘.co.uk’ was and while nemt.co.uk fitted the bill, it had been taken by Alec Renwick who was one of NEMT’s founder members and a combination of events led me to use nemaritimetrust.co.uk for my website without much thought behind the choice between ‘name.co.uk’ and ‘name.org.uk’ having been made.
For the following few years my website was not much in use because most of NEMT’s membership were happy to use printed newsletters and my contribution to them was rather limited.
History of NEMT – from 2010.
In 2010 NEMT began publishing the newsletter on the internet which covered the work of both NEMT and its co-existent charity, NFHT, and a website which had began as a hobby for me was to become the website for the North East Maritime Trust, nemaritimetrust.co.uk, and the original nemt.co.uk became redundant.
In 2020, the editorship of nemaritimetrust.co.uk was passed to the Mr Renwick who was the secretary of NEMT, see exchange of emails on the passing away of the Chair of NEMT at the end of March.
I withdrew the editor’s post from him, when I was discovered that he had removed all the pages that referred to the work being done by NFHT, and an attempt was made to recreate those pages but they were lost again in 2024, when he as the Chair of NEMT again took control nemaritimetrust.co.uk, by giving misinformation to one of TSOHost’s Agents.
TSOHost was told about his deceit on March 15th 2024 but intead of returning the site to its rightful owner I was told:-
I believe this may be tied to the other account owner that you mentioned during our chat and it would be best if you tried sorting the issue out with them.
The only way to regain access to the WordPress admin page would be to get in touch with the owner of the account where the domain is registered.
I decided not to waste any more time trying to retrieve the site from which, all the posts and pages fro NFHT had been deleted, while it was with Alec Renwick firstly in 2020 and again in the early 2024 when he deceived TSOHost’s Agent into replacing me with himself as the Admistrator and I asked Nominet to transfer the Website to another Provider which was promptly done once I had proved to them that I was the owner of the domain named nemaritimetrust.co.uk.
I say promptly but the process once initiated, was to take a few days and I used the time to copy what I could from what remained of the old site to create a website for the North East Maritime Trust. The site for the Northumbrian Fisheries Heritage Trust has since been removed from the public domain at the request of its Trustees.
The overriding reason for rebuilding nemaritimetrust.co.uk from scratch was it was the only means of removing Mr Renwick’s post on my Website, which said:-
Unfortunately our site has been almost destroyed by scamming, but we are trying to sort it out.
As you can see, certain nasty Trustees of Northumbrian Fishing Heritage Trust (NFHT) have deleted some of our precious content. Pathetic, isn’t it!
However, this disgraceful act has pointed NEMT in the direction of rebuilding our now outdated website, which we hope will soon be active.
Thank you for your patience.
As any one of the many visitors to nemaritimetrust.co.uk over the last ten years will know, this is was the first post that told an outright lie compounded in with the sort of remark like ‘certain nasty Trustees’ that one would associate with the lower types of Social Media than a site that had reliably reported on restoration of fishing and lifeboat boats for all of it existence, without exception until until those such the current Chair of NEMT gained control of it, that is!
I had to recreate from what I managed to salvage from the remains left of the old one of 2020 by Mr Renwick, together with what I could gather from from my own notes but that still left a significant gap in the record of what NEMT did during the years 2010 to 2014 and help filling in the missing archives would be appreciated.
