  • 2003: Set up informally by a group of local people to preserve maritime heritage.
  • 2004: Operated as an autonomous, unincorporated trust.
  • 2005: Formally incorporated on September 13 and granted premises on Wapping Street in South Shields.
  • 2007 : Awarded official charitable status on February 6. [1, 2]
